Do You Need a Website?

Whatever your message or product, you can share it with the world via the world wide web and I can help you get there. Web design takes time and plenty of planning to be sure visitors to your site can navigate without confusion and quickly find what they need. With so many competing sites to choose from, if you don't get their attention and help them quickly find what they are looking for, they will be gone with a click of the mouse. We are all busy and short on time. We want to get on, get what we need, and get off. You and I are no different. If your website is engaging and interesting, I'll stick around a while, but if I get lost or I am quickly bored trying to find my way, I am on to the next site.

Understanding the audience, who will come to and use your site, is key. Knowing how to speak their language, answer their questions, and guide them along is of utmost importance.  As a web designer, technical writer and editor, I can ensure that your customers will easily navigate every page of your website and quickly find what they need. When visitors enjoy browsing your site, they will come back again - that means repeat business and happy customers for you!

Knowing how to effectively build a website that is easy-to-follow and is visually appealing is not an innate talent -- it comes from studying, years of practice, and interviews with test subjects who actually are trying to use a website to find a product or information. If a website is designed and developed according to a well-researched criteria, a visitor's 'click momentum' will carry them through the site to the point that they will complete your intended action, which is usually to make a purchase or use your service.

I have extensive experience in writing and designing for computer instruction and the web. Each website is unique in its needs and must be designed with specific customer demographics in mind.

Sure, there are hundred of sites and businesses offering website building and associated services. Some are inexpensive and use templates to build your website. Others are very expensive and not within everyone's budgets. As a small business website owner, I understand your specific needs and budgetary constraints. I will work with you to find the solution specific to your individual business. A well-designed web solution opens up new markets for your business, and a new revenue stream.

How's it working for you? If you have a well-designed site, that's great! If not, a redesign might be in order. When your pages are cluttered and have no logical navigation, your visitors become frustrated. Always remember that your competitors are just a click away. I can help improve your web design and navigation so your visitors can find what they need and enjoy using your website. The old saying, "if you build it, they will come" does not always apply to the web. If you build it poorly, they might come but they will not stay long enough to see what you're all about and they will not be back.

You might have started out with one of those template designs from a free hosting site, such as Homestead or Yahoo. Many small businesses begin this way in order to save money. Since you are here reading this, I assume that you, like many others, have become frustrated with how quickly those sites can become cluttered and unattractive. They serve a purpose for a time, but you are ready to move on, move up, and create a website that truly reflects the image that you want for your business, or your art. I will work with you to preserve any elements that you like about your existing site, and then re-style the site, giving it a cohesive design, with a strong navigation structure and a custom branding that will pull it all together. Copy writing an editing are very important elements to a re-design project, and will be a large part of a re-design of your site.

Even with a great design, if your site is not optimized for search engines, no one will be able to find you out here. Again, if you build it, but they can't find it, they will not come. The search engines look at your website, check for certain criteria, and then if all is well, place you in their indexes so you can be found when someone searches for your product or message. If the search engines don't find what they want to see, you won't get in the index and won't come up in potential customers' searches. In that case, why have a website at all? There are some important aspects that must be understood and addressed when building a website. Optimization is one key element that must not be overlooked.
